I'm not sure if it's because I steep myself in it or if it's because it's actually the case, but there appears to be a glut of technology podcasts, tech blogs, and tech journalism (This blog is part of the problem, I know).
Regularly, I hear and read science-fiction writers and technologists (not all of them, mind you) asking at what point will AI decide that it doesn't need humans? That's precisely the wrong question. The question we should always ask: when will the rentier and the copyright holders determine they no longer need the proletariat?
Marc Goodman lays this worry out more succinctly:
“If you control the code, you control the world.” -Future Crimes: Everything Is Connected, Everyone Is Vulnerable, and What We Can Do About It
How will we respond as that future arrives?
